Hot-hitting Jimmy Paredes starts at second base for Orioles
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

Without the luxury of the designated hitter position while in a National League park, Orioles manager Buck Showalter is keeping the hot bat of Jimmy Paredes in the lineup on Friday against the Marlins. Paredes will play second base in favor of Steve Pearce, who is on the bench.

Paredes has been a tough out this season, reaching base via a hit or a walk in all but two of the 27 games he's played.

Orioles DH Jimmy Paredes blasts sixth home run of the year
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Orioles designated hitter Jimmy Paredes went 2 for 5 at the plate in Baltimore's 9-4 win over the Mariners on Tuesday.

Paredes did his damage in the sixth when he belted a two-run home run off of Danny Farquhar, his sixth of the season. He also added an RBI single in the game, totaling four RBI.

"Jimmy's such a sincere guy," manager Buck Showalter said to MASN Sports. "Those guys give themselves such a chance to be successful because he never gives in in the effort department. I was watching him during the last out. He's in every pitch.

"I know down deep he'd like to be playing a position right now, but it fits well for us what he's doing. I don't want to mess with him too much. That was a big hit. He had seven or eight changeups thrown there. Jimmy finally got one up and over, it was actually a ball, and he poked it into left field.

Paredes is now hitting .346 with 25 RBI in 104 at-bats this season.

Paredes has started 17 games at the second spot in the order. Alejandro De Aza, who batted second in back-to-back games, was dropped to the No. 6 hole.

Baltimore is favored (-130) at home against the Angels, per VegasInsider.com.

Orioles' Jimmy Paredes wants more than just DH role
by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer

Jimmy Paredes is having a strong season for the Orioles (.364 avg.), but thinks he can do even more if he played the field instead of serving as the Orioles' designated hitter, according to the Baltimore Sun

“I’m a young guy. I want to be in the field,” Paredes said. “But if they give me a chance to be in the lineup at DH, I feel great with that. I enjoy the game and I’ll put some energy into it. I like being in the lineup every day. No matter what, I want to be in the lineup.”

Paredes has started just three games at second base will making 18 starts at DH.

He also has five homers and 18 RBI in 88 at-bats this season and brought a 12-game hitting streak into Friday's game.

Jimmy Paredes just keeps on hitting for Orioles
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer

In the category of "who saw that one coming" is Orioles slugger Jimmy Paredes. Paredes, who has never played in more than 48 games in his career, has been seeing regular playing time at second base, third base, and primarily as the Orioles' designated hitter.

And he has rewarded manager Buck Showalter's faith in him by collecting hits in all but one of his 21 games played this season since being activated from the disabled list on April 18. He has at least one hit in all 12 games this month, and is hitting .347 (17 for 49) during the 12-game hitting streak.

"I feel great because I've gotten an opportunity and have taken advantage of it. Been trying to do a good job and am so excited to get this chance," the 26-year-old Paredes said prior to Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays, per MASNSports.com.

Just over a month into the season and Paredes has already more than doubled his career-high in home runs with five.
