Dodgers starting pitcher Chris Capuano was leading 1-0 in the eighth inning Saturday against Atlanta before being pulled following a one-out single by B.J. Upton. Capuano had allowed five hits and threw 91 pitches, but he told Mattingly after his last at-bat in the eighth inning to be prepared to pull him out of the game because he had lingering problems with a strained calf.

"It wasn't affecting pitch execution out there," Capuano said. "It just feels a little tired. I've got an extra day before the next start (Friday against the Cardinals). With treatment and stuff we should be able to get that ready."

Capuano, who was activated off the DL May 6, is 1-1 with a 3.57 ERA in his last three starts. He's allowed two runs on 10 hits and a walk in his last two starts (13 2/3 innings).

Dodgers pitcher Chris Capuano turned in another dominant performance but settled for a no-decision Saturday night against the Braves.

Capuano, who made his fourth start of the season, pitched seven scoreless innings. He was unable to preserve the lead, allowing a run in the eighth. He gave up five hits, struck out five and did not issue a walk in the 3-1 defeat.

Capuano is slated to face the Cardinals at home Friday. He is 1-2 with a 8.03 ERA in three starts at Dodger Stadium.

After allowing five runs in four innings in his last start, Dodgers pitcher Chris Capuano turned in a bounce-back performance in Sunday's series finale against the Marlins. Capuano allowed  a run on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in the 5-3 win. The run came in the sixth inning on a solo homer by Justin Ruggiano.

Capuano was pulled after giving up a one-out double in the seventh and finished with a season-high seven strikeouts and a walk to earn his first win.

"It's been a bit of a nightmare the past week. It's nice to wake up from it," Capuano said. "I was trying to watch some of the good games I had last year, look at what I did to be successful and try to stick with my strengths instead of worrying about getting to the hitters' weaknesses. I think it's a good approach with any lineup, not trying to get too caught up in a hitter's weaknesses. I had a pretty good changeup working today. And with the humidity and the moisture, I had that pitch working."

The left-hander is slated to face the Braves Saturday in Atlanta.
