Rockies' Weiss expecting great year from Justin Morneau
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Justin Morneau won the NL batting title (.319) in his first year with the Rockies in 2014 and as the start of the 2015 season nears, the 33-year-old first baseman believes he has even more left in the tank now that his health issues are behind him.

"I feel good. I feel strong," he said, per The Denver Post. "My swing feels consistent, and I feel like I can wait for the pitch I want. I feel like I am going up there with the best version of myself, as opposed to somebody who's just patched together."

Morneau is not the only person expecting lofty expectations in 2015. Manager Walt Weiss predicts a banner year from Morneau, who has averaged 118 games over the last six seasons.

"Justin's showing no signs of age," Weiss said Wednesday. "He's not as old as maybe some people think he is. He missed some time there for a while, and missed some time coming back, so I think some people think he's 40 years old. He's not. Plus, he's in great shape."

Rockies 1B Justin Morneau sidelined due to minor elbow injury
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau hasn't played since Wednesday due to a minor left elbow injury, per MLB.com. Although, he is hoping to play Monday.

Morneau is batting .167 (3 for 18) with one home run and three RBI through nine spring games.

"It's more of a feeling than it is a number," Morneau said of his spring numbers. "I just want to feel like I don't need to cheat to get to the ball inside. I can go down the street [to minor league camp] and get 10 at-bats in a day if I want to when they're playing intrasquad games.

"It's getting to that pitch without thinking about getting to it. It takes a little while. It's a trust thing."

Rockies garnering heavy interest in Morneau; Marlins interested
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich said Tuesday there has been substantial interest in first baseman Justin Morneau, according to The Denver Post

Morneau is heading into the final year of a two-year, $12.5 million contract that includes a $750,000 mutual option for 2016.

"Now that there are fewer free-agent hitters to be had, we are getting more calls on our hitters," Bridich said Tuesday. "Justin is a heck of a player and a heck of a hitter under a very fair contract."

CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman confirmed Wednesday the Marlins are one team showing interest in acquiring Morneau, who hit .319 with a .496 slugging percentage in 135 games in 2014.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau went 3 for 4 with a home run and six RBI in his team's 16-2 shellacking of the Dodgers Wednesday.

Morneau kicked off the run parade with a three-run home run in the first inning, and he would drive two more runs in on a single later in the same inning. His sixth RBI came on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Morneau is finishing an excellent rebound season in strong fashion, hitting .320/.363/.497 with 16 home runs and 79 RBI in 475 at-bats.

Justin Morneau right back in the lineup
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

Justin Morneau's absence was as short as advertised. The Rockies first baseman was back in the lineup Monday against the Dodgers after missing two games with intercostal soreness. Trainer Keith Dugger downplayed the injury over the weekend, terming it just "a little soreness."

Morneau has had trouble staying on the field for more than three or four games in a row in the second half, but he's batting .353 (12 for 34) with a home run so far in September.
