Justin Morneau comes off bench to homer for Rockies
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Justin Morneau hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to help pace the Rockies to a 5-1 win over the Cubs on Friday.

Morneau entered the game as a defensive replacement in the sixth inning. He led off the bottom of the inning by hitting a 1-0 pitch to left center for his first homer of the year. Morneau went one for two on the day. The homer was his 1,500th career hit.

"Sometimes when you pinch-hit or come in like that, late in the game, it's sometimes better," he said, per MLB.com. "You go up there with a simple approach. You don't really have enough time for your mind to get in the way."

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau will play and is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers, despite being left out of the lineup originally, reports The Denver Post.

Morneau's status was up in the air after suffering a neck injury Tuesday when he was hit trying to take third base. Wilin Rosario was originally set to start at first in Morneau's place, but will move back to the bench with him being cleared to play.

The Brewers are the favorites (-145) over the Rockies Wednesday.
