Dodgers closer Brandon League got his 14th save Saturday afternoon against the Pirates.

League worked his way around back-to-back singles to start the 11th, retiring the next three batters he faced to preserve a 5-3 win. The right-hander has converted 14 of 18 save opportunities. He has a 5.54 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP in 26 appearances.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly was reluctant to defend Brandon League earlier in the day Tuesday, and it soon become clear why. Mattingly told the Los Angeles Times prior to Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks that League has been replaced by Kenley Jansen as the team's closer.

Brandon League allowed four runs on four hits and a walk Monday in a save opportunity, his fourth blown save of the season. League now has a 6.00 ERA and 1.46 WHIP on the season.

"I'm not sitting here trying to defend Brandon at this point," Mattingly told the Los Angeles Times, adding that he would "look at" the possibility of moving League out of the closer's role. Mattingly added that League's "stuff" is the same -- 95 and 96 mph fastballs -- but League isn't seeing as many chases with his breaking ball. 

If League is pulled from the closer's role, he would likely be replaced with Kenley Jansen, who has a 2.53 ERA. 

Dodgers closer Brandon League's struggles continued Monday against the Diamondbacks as he blew his fourth save.

League struck out the first batter he faced but could not get any of the next four out. He ultimately allowed four earned runs on four hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning, as he turned a 3-1 lead into a 5-4 loss. 

League has 13 saves in 17 opportunities, with three of his blown saves coming in his last nine outings. League has a 6.00 ERA and 1.46 ERA. 

Dodgers closer Brandon League pitched a scoreless inning as he picked up his second win of the season Friday night against the Braves in extras.

League (2-2), who entered the game in the 10th, allowed a two-out double to Jason Heyward and forced Justin Upton to ground out to retire the side. The Dodgers won the game in the bottom of the frame on a wild pitch. The right-hander has a 4.63 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP in 23 appearances.
