Cardinals' Brandon Moss: Agrees to one-year deal with Cards
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Moss and the Cardinals agreed to terms Friday on a one-year, $8.25 million deal, avoiding arbitration, MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports.

As expected, Moss and the Cards were able to reach a deal without arbitration, and the veteran will now have a chance to entrench himself as the club's top first baseman. All signs point to him opening the season in that role, but Matt Adams could work his way into more opportunities if Moss struggles out of the gate.

Cardinals' Brandon Moss: Expected to get first crack at starting job

Brandon Moss will have the first opportunity to entrench himself as the St. Louis Cardinals ' top first baseman, according to mlb.com's Jenifer Langosch

Moss and the Cardinals are believed to be in the process of working out a deal to avoid arbitration. The 32-year-old is expected to open the season as the team's primary first baseman, but a slow start could lead to more opportunities for Matt Adams.

Cardinals' Brandon Moss: Working to avoid arbitration
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Brandon Moss and the St. Louis Cardinals are still in discussions about a contract for 2016, MLB.com's Jennifer Langosch reports.

It was previously thought that the two sides came to an agreement, but an offer was simply extended by the Cardinals. There is no reason to think a deal won't get done in an effort to avoid arbitration, but it's understandable that the Cardinals don't want to pay a premium for a player like Moss, whose only useful tool is his power. Assuming he is back in St. Louis in 2016, Moss will be a depth piece at first base, seeing time against lefties and getting at-bats off the bench.

Cardinals' Brandon Moss: Back with Cards in 2016
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Moss agreed to a one-year deal with the Cardinals for 2016, avoiding arbitration, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold reports.

Matt Adams can't hit lefties, and Moss has shown a slight (.246/.322/.399) ability to hit them throughout his career, so he could represent a platoon partner at first base, while also representing cheap power off the bench. Moss has hit 95 home runs over the past four seasons, but with a cloudy playing time outlook, he could fail to tally enough counting stats to be useful in mixed leagues. He will be a free agent after the 2016 season.

Cardinals' Brandon Moss starting at first base on Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Brandon Moss is in the lineup for Game 2 of the NLDS against the Cubs on Saturday, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.

Moss was held out of Friday's Game 1 with the St. Louis Cardinals facing left-hander Jon Lester, but he will get the start at first base Saturday afternoon against righty Kyle Hendricks. Moss will hit sixth in the Cardinals' batting order.
