Braves' Jim Johnson: Suffers loss Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jim Johnson (0-2) received the loss Tuesday after giving up the only two runs that the Nationals scored in the game.

Johnson came in to pitch the eighth inning when the game was still scoreless, and he was only able to get two outs before getting pulled from the game. Eric O'Flaherty actually gave up the double that scored the only two runs the Nationals scored in the game, but Johnson was charged with both. In the end, the former closer surrendered two earned runs through a hit and a walk.

Braves' Jim Johnson: Part of closer committee in Atlanta?
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Manager Fredi Gonzalez suggested Tuesday that he could use Jim Johnson in a combination of closers with Jason Grilli (Achilles) and Arodys Vizcaino, at least initially, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. "It will be probably the same situation (as last year)," Gonzalez said. "I can use all three. Mix-and-match. Absolutely."

The team believes Grilli still has time to make Opening Day, but if Grilli's not available, Johnson and Vizcaino will likely split closer duties to begin the season. Gonzalez seems to be embracing a more contemporary view of the closer role. "I feel that way now," Gonzalez said, "that if the matchup comes up, say in the seventh inning there's two or three guys the scouting reports say can't hit high velocity, maybe we run Vizcaino against those guys. That might be the biggest inning." Johnson, who saved 101 games for Baltimore from 2012-13, struggled after a trade to Los Angeles last year but had a 2.25 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 49 appearances with the Atlanta Braves .

Braves' Jim Johnson: Signs with Braves
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Atlanta Braves signed Jim Johnson to a one-year contract Monday.

Johnson opened last season as the Braves' top setup man and eventually took over closing duties from Jason Grilli following the latter's season-ending Achilles injury. However, Johnson's stint as a closer lasted less than a month before he was shipped to the Dodgers at the trade deadline. In the end, he made 72 appearances between the two organizations, posting 10 saves to go with a 2-6 record, 4.45 ERA, 1.455 WHIP, and 50:20 K:BB in 66.2 innings. Expect Johnson to challenge for the Braves' setup role yet again.

Dodgers pitcher Jim Johnson designated for assignment
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jim Johnson was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.

As was the case with Mat Latos, Johnson's time in Los Angeles was nothing short of disastrous, as he allowed a whopping 21 earned runs on 32 hits in just 18.2 innings after coming over from Atlanta at the deadline. He was much better with the Braves, earning 20 holds and nine saves while only blowing four chances, but the 32-year-old will likely have to settle for another one-year deal, if he even receives a major-league offer.

Dodgers RP Jim Johnson gives up run in return to team Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Dodgers reliever Jim Johnson allowed one earned run in a one-inning appearance in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

Johnson had been away from the team for a few days following the birth of his child, but he should be back with the squad for the rest of the campaign. He will continue pitching in middle relief.
