Phoenix Suns agree to re-sign G Shannon Brown to 2-year contract

Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reports that the Phoenix Suns have agreed to re-sign free agent guard Shannon Brown. The deal is worth $7 million over two seasons.

The move comes after the Suns extended a 4-year, max offer sheet to restricted free agent guard Eric Gordon, which was eventually matched by the New Orleans Hornets. The Suns were also linked to free agent guard O.J. Mayo in rumors, but he ultimately signed with the Dallas Mavericks.

Brown, 26, signed with the Suns in December 2011 after spent 2-plus seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he built his reputation as a scoring guard with excellent leaping ability.

In Phoenix, Brown averaged career-highs of 11.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in 23.7 minutes per game.

Brown will join a new-look Phoenix backcourt that lost All-Star point guard Steve Nash to the Lakers. In Nash's place, Goran Dragic returns for his second tour of duty in the desert. Phoenix also selected Kendall Marshall in the 2012 NBA Draft Lottery.

During his 6-year NBA career, Brown has also spent time with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls and Charlotte Bobcats.
