Report: Timberwolves still want to trade Ricky Rubio even after getting Jimmy Butler
Guess who is still on the trading block for the Timberwolves
The Timberwolves have been trying to trade Ricky Rubio for years. Not a summer or trade deadline goes by without his name popping up in some rumors. Sure enough, before the NBA Draft it was Rubio's name that appeared on the trade block just hours before the first pick.
Minnesota pulled off a huge steal and grabbed Jimmy Butler from the Bulls on draft night, but instead of shipping out Rubio, the Wolves parted with Kris Dunn and Zach Lavine. It seemed like Rubio's job in Minnesota might be safe for once. According to Marc Stein of ESPN, that is not the case and it's business as usual in Minnesota as Rubio is still on the trading block.
League sources say Minnesota, in the wake of the Jimmy Butler deal, remains intent on trading Ricky Rubio as it searches for more shooting.

While Rubio being shopped around is nothing new, Minnesota needs to add some shooting if it is going to contend for the playoffs. Lavine was the Timberwolves' best shooter, but now he's in Chicago so maybe using Rubio as an asset for shooting isn't the worst idea ever.
The shooter Minnesota gets better be lights out though, because Rubio is a very skilled point guard that has frequently made the Timberwolves better. When he's on the floor the team plays better and it's been like that for years. Of course, Minnesota has never actually bit on a trade involving Rubio before so let's not hold our breath on this one.
