Reports: Blazers offer Parsons max deal; Grizzlies willing to do same
Chandler Parsons is apparently going to get paid handomsely
It looks like Chandler Parsons is going to get that maximum contract he wanted. The Portland Trail Blazers met with him in Los Angeles in the early hours of free agency and offered him four years at the max, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. On Friday he will meet with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to ESPN's Marc Stein, and they will reportedly be willing to pay him the same way.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic are also reportedly on Parsons' list. Los Angeles has already reportedly agreed to a four-year, $64 million deal with center Timofey Mozgov. If these teams are serious about signing him, then it appears that they must come to the table with a maximum contract, too.
When Parsons signs this deal, it will appear controversial -- people will be shocked that a team is committing more than $90 million for a role player with knee problems. It was always predictable, though, in this market where there is a ton of competition for top free agents and some teams will have trouble just reaching the salary floor.
Parsons is not a franchise player, but that is irrelevant. This is the right time and right place for him, and the upside is pretty good: He's 27 years old, versatile and a great fit in many systems. If you're going to be upset about him getting his money, you might as well get it out of your system now.
