Lakers' Steve Nash announces his retirement
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Lakers guard Steve Nash officially announced his retirement from the NBA on Saturday.

Nash published an essay on the Players Tribune that began with the phrase, "I'm retiring."

"I will likely never play basketball again," Nash wrote. "It’s bittersweet. I already miss the game deeply, but I’m also really excited to learn to do something else. ... When I think of my career, I can’t help but think of the kid with his ball, falling in love. That’s still what I identify with and did so throughout my entire story."

Nash played 18 years in the NBA--10 with the Suns, six with the Mavericks, and the last two with the Lakers. He was an eight-time All Star and won back-to-back MVPs in 2004 and 2005.

He turned 41 in Feburary and averaged 6.8 points this season in 15 games, his lowest scoring average since his rookie season.

Nash averaged 14.3 points and 8.5 assists in his career.

Hawks' Kyle Korver moves into 13th place on 3-pointer list
by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

Kyle Korver hit a pair of 3-pointers in the Hawks' 106-97 win over the Cavaliers on Friday, reaching a career milestone.

The two long-range shots gave Korever 1,686 in his career, moving past Steve Nash into thirteenth place on the NBA's career list. Kobe Bryant is next, with 1,694.

Korver hit both 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, scoring six of his eight points in the final 12 minutes.

The Hawks next play at the 76ers on Saturday.

Steve Nash hints retirement: 'NBA game is just a touch too far for me'
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Lakers guard Steve Nash hinted that his NBA career is likely over while making an appearance on TSN Radio 1040 on Tuesday. Nash admitted that the wear-and-tear of his body can no longer handle game action.

"Unfortunately the NBA game is just a touch too far for me," Nash said. "I play one game and I'm out a month. I have a bunch of back things going on that compromise that nerve.

"I never worked as hard as I did the last 18 months, two years, twice a day almost every day to try to just give it that one last year," Nash said. "And I finally just had to admit that it’s just not meant to be."

Nash, 41, was ruled out for the 2014-15 season with recurring nerve issues in his back. He is owed $9.7 million this year before he becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. The eight-time NBA All-Star has career averages of 14.3 points, 8.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds over 18 seasons.

Steve Nash to mentor young Lakers
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Lakers guard Steve Nash will be around to mentor the team's young players, according to ESPN.

Since being ruled out for the season, Nash hasn't been a presence with the club. When asked about the situation, coach Byron Scott indicated that he's had a hard time getting in touch with Nash. That hasn't been a problem for Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak, though.

"He’s around," Kupchak said. "He will work with some of our players. He may have already started doing that. He’s not going to go out and advertise [but] he’s doing it. ... As the season progresses, he’ll be more engaged."

The 40-year-old Nash was limited to just 15 games last season due to various injuries.

Report: Lakers eye Celtics PG Rondo in trade for Nash, picks
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Dallas is apparently not the only team trying to trade for Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo. The Lakers have offered Boston multiple draft picks and veteran point guard Steve Nash for him, according to ESPN.com.

Rondo has been healthy and productive this season. He is averaging just 8.5 points per game, but leads the NBA at 10.8 steals and is at a career-high 7.5 rebounds per game.
