Lakers coach Byron Scott finally gets in contact with Steve Nash
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Lakers coach Byron Scott told reporters Tuesday that he's finally gotten in touch with Steve Nash, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Scott expressed some "mild confusion" last week after not being able to get in contact with the 40-year-old point guard. Scott remains hopeful that Nash -- who is done for the season and possibly his basketball career with chronic back issues -- could play a role as a mentor for his young team.

"He did say on his message that he's definitely going to come back [to visit], he wants to see everybody, but he just needed some time, which we all understood," Scott said Tuesday.

Lakers G Steve Nash not in contact with coach Byron Scott
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Lakers coach Byron Scott told reporters Friday that he's reached out to Steve Nash and would like to see the 40-year-old point guard play a role as a mentor for his young team. Unfortunately for Scott, Nash has not been in contact with him.

"He's probably going through a tough time to adjust as far as life without basketball at this particular point," Scott said. "It didn't upset me one bit. Hopefully I'll reach out to him again and we can talk or I can get a return call."

Nash was ruled out for the 2014-15 season with recurring nerve issues in his back, and as a result, the Lakers have applied for a disabled player exception, which would be worth approximately $4.9 million. However, according to the Los Angeles Daily news, the Lakers aren't expected to use it to sign a player, and could possibly seek to trade Nash's expiring $9.8 million contract.

Report: Lakers' Steve Nash ruled out for season due to back issues
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Steve Nash's career may be coming to an end. The 40-year-old has been ruled out for the 2014-15 season with recurring nerve issues in his back, according to Kevin Ding of Bleacher Report on Thursday. The Lakers made an announcement shortly after the report.

Before the season started, the Lakers point guard vowed to play one more season before retiring. In 2013-14, he was limited to 15 games due to the issue after injuring himself getting out of bad. During the preseason, he appeared to have aggravated the issue while carrying his luggage.

The eight-time NBA All-Star has career averages of 14.3 points, 8.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds over 18 seasons.
