Bills GM: Addition of Rob Ryan will only make Rex better as coach
It's fair to say that Rex Ryan's first year with the Bills was a disappointment. Will hiring his twin brother make things better or worse in Year 2?
It's fair to say that Rex Ryan's first season with the Bills was a disappointment. Despite lofty expectations -- created mostly by Ryan -- the team finished 8-8, one game worse than 2014.
Earlier this month, as part of the effort to get the Bills back to the playoffs for the first time since 1999, Rob Ryan -- Rex's twin brother -- joined the coaching staff.
There was plenty of skepticism that two Ryans were better than one when it comes to winning football, particularly since Rob had flamed out as the Saints defensive coordinator two months before, and that he was mostly mediocre in that role with the Raiders, Browns and Cowboys.
Good news, Bills fans: At least one person apprently thinks Rob will only make Rex better.
"If you look at it, Rob and Rex, they've had some troubles," general manager Doug Whaley said, via the Buffalo News. "Their name is kind of like, 'Hey, they're the Ryans, what happened to their defense?' So why not bring in your brother and try to reclaim that name? That's the way I look at it. And who's going to have your back more than your brother? I think it's a positive. I know it's a positive. Everybody in the building feels it's a positive. It's a positive for Rex, too. It can help him expand his horizons as the head coach and get into some other things."
Shorter version: Wonder Twin powers activate! Shape of: competent coaching! Form of: a playoff appearance!
No way this ends badly.
