Jerry Jones has an emphatic answer when it comes to the Dak-Romo Cowboys debate
The Dallas owner has no interest in switching quarterbacks right now
The nation is turning its controversial eyes towards Dallas, where the once-settled situation between rookie starter Dak Prescott and tenured veteran Tony Romo is starting to get cranked up a little bit again. Dak struggled as the Cowboys lost their -- gasp -- second game of the year on Sunday night and people started calling for Romo to step in at quarterback as a result.
But those people don't have an influence over Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who was emphatic when discussing his plan for the quarterback situation, which won't involve yanking his shiny new toy out of the starting lineup.
"No. No. No. No," Jones said. "Not at all. Let me just say that."
So, no? Or ... right, right sorry. No it is.
As noted in this week's Sorting the Sunday Pile column, it's not unreasonable for Cowboys fans to be a little bit worried. They've played the Vikings and Giants in the last two weeks and haven't looked great on offense.
Jones understands that, and pinned Dak's struggles on the Giants defense, rather than the Cowboys offense while noting that Prescott has a whopping four interceptions in his entire NFL career.
"Outstanding," Jones said when asked about his confidence level in his young quarterback. "He's got 13 NFL ballgames at a high level under his belt and what's he got, four interceptions now? Four? So four interceptions. I feel good about our quarterback and I like where we are at the quarterback position. We should have asked and wanted him to make the drive that might have won this thing for us tonight.
"I don't want to make excuses. Most of what happened to us tonight was a well-coached New York Giants defense."
It's a fair point. The Cowboys have been dominant for much of the season. Panicking over the result of a second loss to the Giants is shortsighted, the kind of thing the only team with a playoff berth in hand shouldn't do.
But there's a little bit of unsteadiness to this team, right? Two straight questionable games on offense and the defensively stout Buccaneers coming to Dallas in Week 15. The Cowboys can't gag away their ability to play in the postseason -- they will be in a playoff game.
It's likely to be a home playoff game and it's likely to be in the second week of the postseason. But a loss on Sunday might at least make Jerry hack off one or two of those "no's" when he answers the question next week.
