Kubiak: Two Broncos QBs are 'right there banging on each other' for starting job
Paxton Lynch, the Broncos' first-round pick, isn't in the race
Two players are in the thick of the Broncos' quarterback competition. Paxton Lynch, the team's first-round pick, isn't one of those two players.
On Tuesday, Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak provided an update on his quarterback situation. The contenders are Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian, while Lynch is lagging behind.
"Trevor and Mark have looked each other in the eyes the whole offseason," Kubiak said, per the Denver Post. "When I sit there and watch them practice, I think they're right there banging on each other.
"Those two guys are right there with each other. It's a very competitive situation. They're obviously ahead of our young guy right now from a mental standpoint."

With that being said, the Denver Post reported that it's Sanchez who's running the first team while Siemian is stuck with the second unit. Kubiak and the coaching staff will meet soon to decide if they'll name a starter ahead of next month's training camp. If I had to guess, it will likely be Sanchez, who offers the most experience out of the group.
Again, it won't be Lynch, who's impressed Kubiak thus far, but has made too many mistakes.
"The young kid is extremely talented and young and does a lot of great things and then has his troubles," Kubiak said.
That's not necessarily a bad thing for Lynch, who -- like Carson Wentz in Philadelphia -- will be afforded the rare opportunity to be eased into action. And when Lynch finally does receive meaningful minutes, he won't be thrown into a bad situation. He'll have the benefit of throwing to two top wideouts in Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, and he'll be supported by one of the league's top defenses. Compare his situation to No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff, who'll be forced to immediately lead the Rams in the top heavy NFC West.
Lynch might need to get up to speed quickly, though. Because if the Broncos are forced to rely on Sanchez or Siemian for the entire season, they might run into some issues.
