Falcons-Bucs highlights, score: Officials miss obvious penalty on Mike Evans' TD
The Buccaneers should have been called for illegal man downfield
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers marched right down the field on the opening drive of their "Thursday Night Football" game against the division rival Atlanta Falcons, moving 75 yards on 13 plays to score a touchdown. Mike Evans put the Bucs on the board, catching a pass from Jameis Winston in the back of the end zone to kick off the scoring and give an early lead.
Here's the thing, though: The touchdown probably should not have counted. Check out the play:

It's pretty clear that most of the team expected this to be a run-pass option, with Winston either handing the ball off or hitting Evans quickly on his initial slant route. All the offensive linemen fire out of their stances with run blocks, and running back Peyton Barber heads hard into the hole before he realizes Winston's not giving him the ball.
With Winston having already decided to go with the pass but not actually throwing it to Evans in the first window, he had to freelance. And that's where the Bucs should have been called for a penalty, because by the time Winston did throw the football, one of his offensive linemen was about four yards downfield:

That's left guard Kevin Pamphile, by the way, and he's very obviously well past the line of scrimmage while Winston is gearing up to throw. The penalty went uncalled, though, and the Bucs kicked an extra point to take a 7-0 lead.
