The ol' gunslinger Brett Favre, isn't ready to anoint Derek Carr as the new gunslinger, and as it turns out, that's actually a good thing.

Favre was at AT&T Park to take in a San Francisco Giants game on Wednesday, when he was asked if he thought Carr was a gunslinger.

"I don't know if I consider him a gunslinger," Favre told CSN Bay Area on Wednesday.

In Carr's case, not being a gunslinger is a positive attribute.

Favre earned the nickname because he would sling the ball all over the field, which meant throwing passes to receivers regardless if they were open.

During his 20-year career, Favre led the NFL in interceptions three times, which helped him rack up 336 career picks, which still stands as the most in NFL history. Basically, being a gunslinger isn't necessarily a good thing, and Favre seemed to admit that.

"I think he's a little more polished," Favre said of Carr. "And I mean that with all due respect."

Although Favre doesn't think Carr is a gunslinger, he did offer a huge compliment to the Raiders quarterback: The soon-to-be Hall of Famer said that Carr looks better than he did at the same age.

"I think he's done a tremendous job in Oakland. I like the way he plays," Favre said. "I think he's a little more polished. I like to watch him. A good player."

Carr wears No. 4 because of Favre, so as you can imagine, he was pretty thrilled to hear about Favre's comments.

The Carr-Favre comparisons started in June when Raiders wide receiver Michael Crabtree noticed a few similarities between the two quarterbacks.

"[Carr's] always going to be a gunslinger, and I love that," Crabtree told ESPN.com. "An old, Brett Favre-type quarterback. He reminds me of Brett Favre, [and] Brett Favre's one of the greatest players to ever play this game."

If Carr's career turns out to be just half as successful as Favre's, then the Raiders should be in good shape over the next decade. Favre won three MVP awards, led his teams to five conference championship games and played in two Super Bowls (winning one) during his 20-year career.
