As Michael Scott Wayne Gretzky once said, you miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take. Raiders tight end Colton Underwood is taking the advice to heart, putting himself in the public spotlight by scoring a date with Olympic superstar Aly Raisman.

Raisman, fresh off another impressive Olympics, was doing a live Yahoo! Sports Q&A video when Underwood popped up on the screen to compliment her performance ... and ask her on a double date.

This wasn't totally random, however, as former Olympic gynmast Shawn Johnson (one of Raisman's friends) is married to Raiders long-snapper Andrew East. There's a viable double-date connection here.

"Aly what's up, it's Colt Underwood, tight end for the Raiders. Just want to congratulate you on all your success on the competitions and representing the USA over there," Underwood said. "I know I've been following along. My roommate, my teammates, everybody here is super proud of you.

"If you're ever in San Jose and want to go on a double date with me and Andrew and Shawn, let me know."

Asking a famous athlete on a date during a live video is a pretty bold move. You could get burnt pretty badly. But Raisman was surprisingly open to the idea and even called Underwood "very cute."

"They've actually told me about him before. He's very cute," Raisman said. "Yeah, I would go on a date with him. Maybe he'll come to the show."

This is a big get for Underwood. He's way out of his element in terms of fame: he's a backup tight end for the Raiders. Raisman just won three medals at the Olympics, including a historically dominant gold in the women's team exercise and silver in the women's individual floor exercise and women's individual all around. She would've won three golds if Simone Biles wasn't her teammate and the greatest female gymnast in the world.

She has 764,000 followers on Twitter. He has 4,000. But she's giving him some love out there to help.

And he is pretty happy about the result.

To work out a double date situation with a superstar like Raisman, you've got to have an in. Underwood had it. But you've also got to have the huevos to put yourself out there for potential public rejection.
