Ravens corner threatens to fight Odell Beckham if any late hits happen
Things could get ugly at the Giants-Ravens game on Sunday
If you've ever watched Odell Beckham Jr. play football, then you probably already know that he's an emotional player.
Those emotions have cost Beckham some serious money this year. Through five weeks, the Giants receiver has been fined a total of $72,463. That fine total includes a $24,309 penalty that Beckham was hit with after he got into a short shoving match with Vikings defensive back Xavier Rhodes after a play in Week 2.
Don't look for any shoving matches this week though, because there's a good chance that things might escalate straight to a fight if Beckham tries to trash talk or shove Ravens corner Jimmy Smith after any plays on Sunday.
"All of that extra hitting and talking, that's not going to fly," Smith said Wednesday, via ESPN.com. "That's not my game. I like to line up and play. 'Give me your best shot, and I'll give you mine.' But if you hit me after the whistle, there's going to be a fight."
Now that Smith has said that, hopefully there will be a camera on those two guys for the entire game on Sunday.
The reason Smith mentioned fighting is because apparently, that's the step he immediately skips to when he's dealing with an opponent. The Ravens corner says that he doesn't really do the whole trash-talking thing.
"It's not really my game," Smith said, via the Ravens official website. "I like to be at my best, and talking trash just gets me mad."
Of course, the rivalry between Smith and Beckham can't happen if the Ravens corner isn't covering Odell this week, and although Smith knows his assignment for Sunday, he wasn't ready to divulge who he might be covering.
"It's up to the coaches, really," Smith said. "If the defensive coordinator and my defensive coach come up with the game plan, and they think that's a great matchup for me to shadow, then they'll call that matchup. If not, they won't."
The good news for Smith is that Beckham will probably be doing everything he can to avoid any post-play extracurricular activities. The only way Beckham will be fighting on Sunday is if someone tries to come between him and the kicking net.
