It seems counterintuitive on the surface, but the NFL would be a much more boring place without Bill Belichick in it. No, he doesn't suffer fools well, and he has redefined what it means to be singularly focused on a task.

But the man also has a sense of humor, whether he's dropping My Cousin Vinny references when answering questions about deflated footballs, or  pulling a Constanza and leaving a press conference on a high note.

The latest: Belichick met with the media on Wednesday and the conversation turned to candy canes. Specifically, if the Patriots coach was a fan.

So that's a no on hard candies of any type.

And someone actually looked Belichick in the eye while asking this: "Based on some of the things your team's been through in 2015, would it be OK with you if Santa Claus wrote you a letter to tell you that he threw a couple of the names of the men who run the league, and their lawyers, on the naughty list this year?"

Belichick's response:

Belichick also praised just-signed running back Steven Jackson, "I don't think there is any question about Jackson's intelligence, work ethic, character. He was a great player," Belichick said.

And saved his best crack for when he was asked about how the Jets' dominating defensive line complements one another.

"They usually run over the guy in front of them. The guy who gets there first hits the quarterback."

That's insight you can't get just anywhere.
