Kirk Cousins gave the Redskins a 17-13 lead over the Lions with just over a minute remaining Sunday, but that lead disappeared a minute later when Matthew Stafford countered Cousins' go-ahead drive by engineering a game-winning drive.

Stafford, who's playing the best football of his career, began the one-minute drill with a 23-yard pass to Marvin Jones. He used his legs on the next play to pick up 14 yards. He then hit Andre Roberts for a 20-yard gain. It took Stafford three plays to guide the Lions to the Redskins' 18-yard line.

Three plays later, he found Anquan Boldin for the game-winning 18-yard touchdown.

That's one heck of a route by the ageless Boldin and one heck of a throw by Stafford. Boldin's stutter step set up his path to the inside while Stafford's pass barely cleared Will Compton's outstretched arm. Stafford actually struggled -- compared to how he's played most of the season -- for most of the low-scoring game, but pulled it together when the Lions needed a score.

On the day, he went 18 of 29 for 266 yards. He didn't throw an interception and posted a 103.5 passer rating. So, Stafford's career-best season under the guidance of Jim Bob Cooter continued Sunday. You can read more about the Cooter effect here.
