Albert is expected to be ready to roll for the season opener. The team has repeatedly claimed that he is on track, though offensive line coach John Benton is making no guarantees.
"From what I've heard it looks promising," he told the Palm Beach Post. "To say I'm confident is probably a little bit of a stretch. He promises me. I certainly hope that's the case - we're a much better crew with him. At the same time you have to make the plans that he won't (be ready)."
The shoulder injury that has sidelined Jones has been a factor since late in the regular season.
Albert has been rehabbing from a torn ACL and MCL sustained last November against Detroit. He had signed a five-year, $46 million contract the previous March and had been performing particularly well before going down.
"It's been a long rehab and he's really attacked it every day," Hickey told SiriusXM NFL Radio, adding that there was a "reasonable explanation" that he would be ready for Week 1. "We really like his progress. He's out there with his team working out. We're really encouraged by what we're seeing with him."
Ja'Wuan Williams was forced to move to left tackle following the Albert injury in 2014. But he struggled at that position and is expected to move to his more familiar right tackle spot this year.
That's the word from general manager Dennis Hickey.
"We want to be measured and stick to our plan," Hickey told Fox Sports. "It's an extensive rehab, but it's going well and he's on track for the opening game."
Albert was sidelined for the last seven games of the 2014 season after rupturing the ACL and MCL in his right knee.
Albert was on his way to a likely Pro Bowl nod when he tore the ACL in Week 10.
"When you get there and you're at the top of your game, and something like this happened, it's like, 'Damn, I was at the top of my game, doing good,'" Albert said."My thing is proving my worth. I never wanted to come down here and have somebody say, 'Well, he shut it down when he got paid.'"
While speaking at the combine,
"The rehab is going well. But it's a long rehab and it's a difficult (rehab)," Hickey said.
Albert ruptured the ACL and MCL in his right knee Nov. 9, and quarterback Ryan Tannehill was sacked 29 times without Albert protecting him the second half of the season. The Miami Herald reported earlier in January that the Dolphins are "beyond encouraged, and pleasantly surprised" with his recovery from surgery, and that he is expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2015 opener.
