Per Franklin's Twitter page, Franklin says his career is over. "I understand God knows what he is doing and for now he has another platform for me to step upon," he wrote as part of a statement. "I ask that you all pray for me during this transition."
Franklin had at least one carry in four games last season, talling 19 carries for 107 yards with a touchdown along with 30 yards on four grabs, the majority of which came while filling in for an injured starter in Week 3 at Cincinnati.
Steve Broussard, who coached Franklin during his breakout year at UCLA, thinks he'll be a fine player once he adjusts to the NFL. Franklin showed his potential Week 2, when he rushed for 103 yards, but only saw six carries the rest of the year. Broussard said the offseason would be crucial for Franklin. He added that he thought Franklin pressed early in the year. Broussard also believes Franklin would perform better with more carries. That could be tough to come by considering Eddie Lacy is around, but Franklin did receive positive reports last offseason. With some improvement, he could work his way into at least a minor role next season.
Franklin is dealing with a concussion. He suffered the injury Week 12 against the Vikings. Franklin will have the entire offseason to come back from the injury.
