Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Thursday that running back Johnathan Franklin "will not be back with us" according to ESPN, adding that the team will make an announcement regarding his future on Friday. Franklin suffered a neck injury last season that put him on injured reserve.
Per Franklin's Twitter page, Franklin says his career is over. "I understand God knows what he is doing and for now he has another platform for me to step upon," he wrote as part of a statement. "I ask that you all pray for me during this transition."
Franklin had at least one carry in four games last season, talling 19 carries for 107 yards with a touchdown along with 30 yards on four grabs, the majority of which came while filling in for an injured starter in Week 3 at Cincinnati.
