Vikings add Derek Cox on one-year deal
by Chris Towers |

The Vikings agreed to terms with free-agent defensive back Derek Cox on a one-year deal Thursday, according to U-T San Diego. Financial terms for the deal are not yet known.

Cox finished the 2013 season with the Chargers with one interception and 38 tackles, a disappointing season after he had four picks and 60 tackles in just 12 games the year before.

The Chargers released cornerback Derek Cox after one season, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune. The move saves San Diego $4.25 million in cash but creates $3.9 million in dead money.

Cox was a major bust. He had 38 tackles and one interception last season after signing a four-year, $20 million deal.

Derek Cox might be replaced in starting lineup
by Michael Hurcomb |

After being benched for the third time this season Week 12, Chargers cornerback Derek Cox could find himself out of the starting lineup Week 13 vs. Cincinnati.

"We've made changes before," Chargers coach Mike McCoy said, per U-T San Diego. "We're going to let the DBs compete this week, and come this week, we'll find out what we think is the best combination for us (like) at any position on our football team. We're going to do what's best for the four."

Chargers DST shows rare dominance
by Larry Hartstein |

The Chargers DST, which came in as the second-worst Fantasy unit, put together a stunning performance Monday night without starting linebackers Donald Butler and Jarret Johnson. The defense held the Colts to 267 total yards and 2-of-10 third-down conversions.

San Diego won 19-9, marking the first time Andrew Luck did not account for a touchdown this season.

Cornerback Derek Cox tied for the team lead with five tackles and created the game's only turnover when he intercepted Luck late in the fourth quarter. The pass was high and deflected off Reggie Wayne's hand. Defensive end Kendall Reyes had a 9-yard sack.

The rejuvenated Chargers DST could have another strong outing Week 7 at Jacksonville.
