Neal (knee) was waived/injured after hurting his knee during Thursday's preseason finale against the Bears, according to the team's official website.
If Neal goes unclaimed through waivers, the Browns will place him on injured reserve. Before he went down with a knee injury, the 24-year-old was battling to be the No. 3 running back but was unable to supplant Raheem Mostert (hamstring) and Terrell Watson.
Neal was carted off after injuring his knee against the Bears on Thursday, Nate Urlich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Neal was a long shot to make the Browns' 53-man roster, currently listed as the fourth-string running back along with Terrell Watson and Jahwan Edwards, and this certainly doesn't help his cause. However, depending on the severity of his knee injury, Cleveland may opt to place the 23-year-old on injured reserve rather than waiving him.
