Drew Brees throws for 340 yards in losing effort
by Larry Hartstein |

Saints quarterback Drew Brees did very little in the first half Sunday night at Dallas, throwing for 84 scoreless yards with an interception. Predictably, Brees heated up when New Orleans went into hurry-up, comeback mode.

Brees finished 32 of 44 for 340 yards and two touchdowns, adding a 6-yard rush. It was the third straight game he's thrown for two scores and his second 300-yard passing performance.

Both his touchdowns came in the fourth quarter with New Orleans well behind. Brees hit tight end Josh Hill for a 12-yard score and tight end Jimmy Graham for a 13-yard score.

Brees plays the Buccaneers in Week 5.

Vintage Drew Brees performance on deck
by Chris Towers |

863 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Eighth in scoring at his position. You would take that from 99 percent of quarterbacks without complaints. Of course, Drew Brees isn't 99 percent of quarterbacks, is he?

Brees has been fine, but he has yet to have a vintage Drew Brees performance for the Saints. In one league I am in, an 0-3 owner announced his intention to trade Brees, and strangely, nobody really jumped at the chance to grab one of the most productive quarterbacks in league history at what might be the nadir of his value. That might be a mistake.

Breese has completed 70.9 percent of his passes and is averaging 7.4 yards per attempt through three games, numbers that aren't terribly far removed from his levels of the last few years. However, he has thrown a touchdown on just 4.3 percent of his attempts, which would be his lowest number since 2007. It is also one that should surely improve, perhaps as soon as Week 4 against the Cowboys.

The Cowboys have managed to not live down to the extremely low expectations placed on them defensively this season, but they have still allowed quarterbacks to find the end zone on 6.1 percent of their passes so far. Expect Brees to exploit that, just like he did last year when he passed for four touchdowns and 392 yards against Dallas.

It probably goes without saying, but Brees is a must-start Fantasy option for Week 4. The Drew Brees we all expected is on the way.

Drew Brees breezes Saints past Vikings with solid game
by Marty Gitlin |

Saints quarterback Drew Brees did not need to be his typically explosive self Sunday against the visiting Vikings. He merely required efficiency - and he was certainly efficient in their victory.

Brees carved up the Minnesota defense to the tune of 27 of 35 for 293 yards and two touchdowns. He started and ended hot. He opened the game by completing all five passes on a scoring drive that set the tone for the rest of the game, tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Josh Hill later in the first quarter and hit veteran wideout Marques Colston for an 18-yard TD early in the fourth.

Despite the two scoring drives in the first quarter, Brees did much of his damage after intermission, completing 12 of 16 for 140 yards and the touchdown. He and his Saints will come marching into Dallas for a nationally televised game next Sunday night.

Drew Brees has Jekyll-Hyde game in defeat to Browns
by Marty Gitlin |

Saints quarterback Drew Brees arrived in Cleveland with a meager 67.4 rating lifetime against the Browns and a 95.7 mark against all other competition. Those struggles continued Sunday afternoon - at least for a while.

Brees had managed to complete just half of his 10 passes for 13 yards one possession into the second quarter before consistently finding prolific tight end Jimmy Graham and bolstering his numbers. He finished 27 of 40 for 237 yards, two touchdowns to Graham and a costly pick-six by safety Tashaun Gipson off an overthrow in the second quarter.

He took advantage of single coverage on Graham late in the that quarter and beyond. Brees threw a 9-yard touchdown to his favorite target with three seconds remaining in the half to cut the deficit to 16-10 and found him again for a 1-yarder six minutes into the third to give his team its first lead.

Brees will attempt to guide the Saints to their first win in Week 3 against visiting Minnesota.

Drew Brees concedes scores to running game
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

Saints quarterback Drew Brees had a mostly typical performance Week 1 at Atlanta. He spread the ball to seven different receivers, completing 29 of 42 passes for 333 yards to give him 300-plus yards in three of his last four games against the Falcons. And as usual, he did a fine job leading his team to the end zone. The Saints scored 34 points in the loss.

But because so many of their pass-catchers were halted inside the 5-yard line, Brees didn't get credit for many of those touchdowns himself. Instead, he handed the ball off to Mark Ingram for two, both 3-yarders, and Khiry Robinson for one, a 2-yarder. Brees' lone touchdown pass could have easily been another run. It was only a 3-yarder to rookie Brandin Cooks.

Still, the only low point for Brees was an interception in the end zone late in the third quarter, and even then, defensive back Robert McClain made a great play on the ball.

Brees, who has averaged 42.7 touchdown passes over the last three seasons, will try to find the end zone more Week 2 at the Browns, who gave up 365 passing yards to Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in Week 1.
