Texans' Nick Novak: Re-signs with Houston
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Novak agreed to re-sign with the Texans on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Novak came through with a career-best season in 2016, converting a franchise-record 35 field goals for a Texans team that struggled to find the end zone. While Novak hasn't shown much prowess from distance in his career, he turned the corner last season, nailing 4-of-7 attempts from 50 yards or longer. The terms of his new contract with the Texans aren't yet known, but given that Novak is set to turn 36 in August, his deal likely doesn't include much guaranteed money.

Texans' Nick Novak: Three field goals in Saturday's playoff loss
by RotoWire Staff | Special to

Novak kicked three field goals and an extra point in Saturday's 34-16 loss to the Patriots in the divisional-round playoff game.

Novak once again benefited from a Texans offense that failed to execute and couldn't finish drives. His 10 points in the playoff loss is a nice finish to a season in which he scored 127 points during the regular season. He's had a steady 29-game run as the Texans placekicker, having taken over the job in Week 4 of 2015. He converted 86 percent of his kicks over his two seasons in Houston and enters unrestricted free agency in the offseason. If the Texans don't make a run at him, Novak will certainly get a chance to compete for a job in some team's training camp.

Texans' Nick Novak: Perfect in playoff win
by RotoWire Staff | Special to

Novak successfully converted two field-goal attempts and three extra-point kicks for nine points in Houston's 27-14 win over Oakland in Saturday's wild-card round playoff game.

Novak was one of the NFL's more productive kickers in the regular season thanks to an offense that didn't consistently turn red-zone trips into touchdowns, but that wasn't the case Saturday as Houston crossed the goal line on four trips inside Oakland's 20. While the offense did enough against the Raiders, it's still far from an effective unit, and Novak should therefore get field-goal opportunities next week against New England or Kansas City.

Texans' Nick Novak: Five points in Week 17 loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Novak converted one of two field-goal attempts and two extra-point kicks in Houston's 24-17 loss to Tennessee in Week 17.

Novak's 45-yard attempt bounced off an upright, his first miss from the distance or closer in 32 attempts. He finished the regular season with 127 points, the second-most of his career while his 41 field-goal attempts were a career high. Much of his success was the direct result of an offense unable to finish drives. If the Texans were better in the red area, a lot of those field goals turn into extra-point kicks. He enhanced his worth as a kicker, finishing eighth in scoring (7.9 ppg), something that shoulder earn him some interest during the offseason when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Texans' Nick Novak: Ready to play
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Novak (oblique) does not appear on the Texans' final injury report in advance of Sunday's game against the Titans.

Novak has been hampered by an oblique injury as of late but is yet to miss any time because of it. In fact, his performance doesn't appear to have taken a hit at all. Barring some sort of freakish setback, the veteran kicker will be good to go come game time.
