VIDEO: ECHL goalie scores goal in wackiest way possible

By Chris Peters | Hockey Writer

Goalie goals are unconventional as it is, but the one that Brian Foster scored Friday night for the Cincinnati Cyclones in the ECHL is beyond unconventional. It's downright bizarre.

If you watch at the very beginning of the video above, Foster makes a seemingly innocuous save in the final minute of the first period. However, with a delayed penalty, the Trenton Titans took over from there.

The description from Cincinnati's post-game recap:

During a delayed penalty against Cincinnati, the Titans pulled their goalie in favor of the extra skater. However, as a Trenton player sent an errant pass through the middle, the puck careened all the way down the ice and into the empty net. Since Brian Foster (W, 28 saves, 17-6-4) was the last Cyclones player to touch the puck, he was credited with his first professional goal at 19:32. It was the first time in club history and the 11th time in ECHL history that a goalie had earned a goal. After 20 minutes, it was 1-0 Cincy.

The Cyclones went on to win 2-1. Foster, who is property of the Florida Panthers, also made 28 saves and was naturally named the game's first star.

Goalie goals are always great, but it might be a long time before you see another one like this.
