It was a wild night in Los Angeles. For one, the L.A. Kings scored five goals on just 13 shots against one of the best goaltenders in the NHL in Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators. Secondly, three of those goals came off the stick of Jeff Carter on about the best possible night for a hat trick.

Monday night was hat giveaway night at Staples Center, meaning the first 10,000 fans through the door had something to throw onto the ice when Carter's third crossed the goal line.

The good news is that it wasn't hammer night, or like in Chicago, for a Jonathan Toews' hat trick in 2009, hard hat night.

The Kings beat the Preds 5-1 to improve to 11-7-2 on the season and 8-2-0 in their last 10 games. Here come the champs.

Also, here comes Carter, who is now tied with Pittsburgh's James Neal for second in the NHL with 14 goals. Remember when he got traded twice in the same year? That was hilarious.
