Berra had 32 saves on Tuesday, but allowed four goals in an OT loss to the Panthers.Berra had been dealing with a sore neck, but felt well enough to start in place of Semyon Varlamov, who has also been nursing an injury. Varlamov is expected to return from injured reserve and will likely get the start in Friday's contest against the Canucks.

Berra could make the start in goal Thursday against the Senators if Semyon Varlamov (groin) is unable to play, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.Varlamov was in the starter's crease at morning skate, but coach Patrick Roy said that if the groin injury is still bothering him during pregame warmups, Berra would likely be called upon to make his second start in three games. Berra came away with the win earlier this week against the Bruins, stopping 27 of 28 shots in the 2-1 victory.

Berra stopped all but one of the 28 shots he faced in Monday's win over Boston.Berra was spectacular Monday, helping the Avalanche pick up their first win of the season. Semyon Varlamov is Colorado's clear starting goalie, but Berra could still see a decent amount of starts as the backup. Berra went 0-1-1 with the Avalanche last season, posting a .781 save percentage and 5.85 GAA.
