  • Panthers' Reto Berra: Shipped to Florida

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/23/16) The Avalanche traded Berra to the Panthers on Thursday in exchange for forward Rocco Grimaldi.

Roberto Luongo was strong in goal last season and Al Montoya was a fine complementary option, though the latter is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, opening the door for Berra, who is signed through the 2016-17 campaign. A fourth-round draft choice in 2006, Berra fell out of favor in Colorado, with head coach Patrick Roy seemingly putting his trust in Calvin Pickard for backup duty rather than the 29-year-old Berra. In 64 games over the span of three years, Berra has a 19-30-4 record, 2.82 GAA and .906 save percentage -- that includes 29 contests as a member of the Flames in 2013-14. If Montoya hits the open market, Berra should have no problems claiming the No. 2 position on the Panthers depth chart.

Avalanche's Reto Berra: Reassigned to AHL

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/29/16) Berra was reassigned to AHL San Antonio on Monday.

After clearing waivers, Berra will work at the AHL level for now, while Calvin Pickard is in line to work as Semyon Varlamov's backup with the big club.

Avalanche's Reto Berra: Placed on waivers

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/28/16) Berra was placed on waivers Sunday, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.

This move appears to signify that the Avalanche are content with Calvin Pickard backing up Semyon Varlamov down the final stretch of the season. Berra was sent down to AHL San Antonio on Feb. 18 for a conditioning assignment after missing nearly two months with an ankle injury, allowing Pickard to take over the backup duties. Before his injury, Berra recorded five wins with a 2.41 GAA and a .922 save percentage in 14 games.

Avalanche's Reto Berra: Sent to minors for conditioning

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/18/16) Berra (ankle) has been reassigned to AHL San Antonio for conditioning.

Considering he hasn't seen game ice since Dec. 12, it's no surprise that Berra needs to get his conditioning up to par. The Avs currently have Semyon Varlamov and Calvin Pickard on the active roster, with the former considered the No. 1 option in the crease. Considering that the Avs currently are frontrunners to grab a Wild Card spot in the postseason, we can't see Berra getting a whole lot of playing time down the stretch.

Avalanche's Reto Berra: Practices in full Tuesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/16/16) Berra (ankle) went through a full practice Tuesday, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports, adding that he could be assigned to the Rampage of the AHL for conditioning.

Fellow netminder Calvin Pickard reportedly remains with the team, suggesting that the Avs still need to subject Berra to further evaluation before deciding whether he'll be available for Wednesday's home tilt against the Canadiens. A fourth-round draft choice in 2006, Berra has not played since Dec. 12. and has only drawn into 14 contests this season, posting a 2.41 GAA and .922 save percentage along with a record of 5-8-0.
