Top Red Wings News

  • Red Wings' Dylan Larkin: Scores vs. Calgary

Larkin scored a goal in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Flames.

Larkin found the twine for the third time over his last four contests. This time, it was through a wrister at the 9:09 mark of the second period. Larkin has 17 goals this season and continued his explosive play of late. He's tallied at least one point in all but one of his last nine outings.

  • Red Wings' Alex DeBrincat: Three points Wednesday

DeBrincat recorded two goals and an assist in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Flames.

DeBrincat extended his impressive stretch of play Wednesday and is now riding a five-game point streak, a span where he's notched eight points (four goals, four assists). DeBrincat is averaging over one point per game since the beginning of November, tallying 20 points over his last 19 contests.

  • Red Wings' Erik Gustafsson: Recalled from AHL

Gustafsson was summoned from AHL Grand Rapids on an emergency basis Thursday.

The Red Wings may need a seventh defenseman Thursday in Edmonton, as Simon Edvinsson was injured Wednesday in Calgary. Gustafsson has only played one NHL game this season, going minus-1 with two shots on goal. He had one goal and 13 assists in 14 AHL games before his recall. The Red Wings placed Mason Appleton (lower body) on injured reserve in a corresponding move.

  • Red Wings' Mason Appleton: Moved to injured reserve

Appleton (lower body) was designated for injured reserve Thursday.

Appleton has already missed five games due to his lower-body problem, so his move to injured reserve won't impact his recovery timeline. In his 26 outings this year, the Wisconsin native has notched just three goals and six helpers to go with 28 shots. Even once cleared to play, Appleton figures to offer limited offensive upside in a bottom-six role.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Makes 34 saves Wednesday

Gibson stopped 34 of 37 shots in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Flames.

Gibson was magnificent Wednesday en route to posting at least 34 saves for a second straight game. He's won each of his last four starts despite allowing at least three goals in three of those contests. He has a 2.50 GAA and .929 save percentage over that stretch, providing a safety blanket for a Red Wings offense that has also scored four or more goals in each of those starts.

  • Red Wings' Simon Edvinsson: Exits contest

Edvinsson (lower body) won't finish Wednesday's game versus the Flames.

Edvinsson was ruled out ahead of the third period, though it's possible there's a cautious angle here for the Red Wings. They led 4-0 at the time of Edvinsson's exit, and they're in the first half of a back-to-back that will also see them play Thursday in Edmonton. If Edvinsson can't play that game, Jacob Bernard-Docker will draw back into the lineup.

  • Red Wings' Ondrej Becher: Two helpers Wednesday

Becher logged two assists in AHL Grand Rapids' 6-4 win over Milwaukee on Wednesday.

Becher is looking for his first goal of the season, but he has seven helpers over his last seven games. Overall, he's at 10 assists in 17 contests during his second AHL campaign. He had 20 points in 59 regular-season outings last year. The 2024 third-round pick of the Red Wings was an overage selection that year, and at 21 years old, he has yet to show enough consistency in the AHL to be considered for an NHL job any time soon.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Slated to start Wednesday

Gibson is expected to start on the road against Calgary on Wednesday.

Gibson has won his past three starts while allowing seven goals on 104 shots (.933 save percentage). He's up to a 7-7-1 record with a 3.34 GAA and an .881 save percentage in 16 outings this season. The Flames are tied for 31st in goals per game with 2.48.

  • Red Wings' Marco Kasper: Finds helper in win

Kasper logged an assist and two PIM in Monday's 4-0 win over the Canucks.

Kasper's first helper of the season ended his 18-game point drought. The 21-year-old has gotten on the scoresheet in just three of 30 games so far, earning three goals and a helper, as well as 44 shots on net, 72 hits, 25 PIM and a minus-12 rating. He's slipped into a bottom-six role with minimal power-play time over the last few weeks, and he'll need to show significantly better consistency on offense to regain some ice time. Kasper showed his talent with a 19-goal, 37-point effort in 77 outings last year, but he's been hit hard by the sophomore slump.

  • Red Wings' Axel Sandin-Pellikka: Posts pair of helpers

Sandin-Pellikka registered two assists and went plus-3 in Monday's 4-0 win over the Canucks.

Sandin-Pellikka is heating up with four helpers over his last three games. The 20-year-old defenseman's ice time has dropped in that span, as he's topped 15 minutes just once over those contests after going 10 straight games with at least 16 minutes. Perhaps less is more for the rookie, at least for now, as the Red Wings can get higher quality out of him in less ice time. He's at 10 points, 31 shots on net, 31 blocked shots and a minus-14 rating over 30 appearances.

  • Red Wings' James van Riemsdyk: Keeps scoring Monday

Van Riemsdyk scored a goal on five shots and added two hits in Monday's 4-0 win over the Canucks.

Van Riemsdyk has scored in four straight games and in six of his last seven outings. The 36-year-old winger has 23 shots in that longer span. For the season, he's at eight points, 42 shots on net and a minus-7 rating over 24 appearances. He's definitely worthy of a look as a streaming option Wednesday versus the Flames, though it's unclear if he'll play both games of the Red Wings' upcoming back-to-back, as he has often sat out at least once during those situations this season.

  • Red Wings' Andrew Copp: Tallies again Monday

Copp scored a goal on three shots and added two PIM in Monday's 4-0 win over the Canucks.

Copp has scored in consecutive contests and has four points over his last three games. The 31-year-old is warming up in the second-line center role, a spot that's come with increasing ice time and power-play usage recently. He's at three goals, 13 points, 38 shots on net, 17 hits, 23 blocked shots and a minus-9 rating through 30 outings overall, but he could be worth a look in fantasy if he continues to trend up on offense.

  • Red Wings' Nate Danielson: Buries goal Monday

Danielson scored a goal in Monday's 4-0 win over the Canucks.

Danielson had gone nine contests without a goal, earning three assists in that span. The 21-year-old center is up to two goals, six points, 23 shots on net and a minus-4 rating over his first 15 appearances. He's been limited to averaging 11:02 of ice time per game, but the rookie is also seeing power-play usage that could boost his offense over time.

  • Red Wings' Dylan Larkin: Puts away empty-netter

Larkin scored an empty-net goal in Monday's 4-0 win over the Canucks.

Larkin's six-game point streak ended Saturday in Seattle, but he was able to get back on the scoresheet one game later. The 29-year-old has four goals and four assists over his last eight outings. On the year, he's up to 16 tallies, 32 points, 96 shots on net, 22 PIM and a plus-9 rating across 30 appearances.

... See More ... See Less
  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Posts shutout Monday

Gibson recorded a 39-save shutout in Monday's 4-0 win over the Canucks.

Gibson has won three straight outings, and Monday's effort was his best of the year, albeit against a slumping Canucks team. The 32-year-old's recent success could help him claw back some playing time from Cam Talbot, as the two looked to be in a timeshare as recently as last week. Gibson is now 7-7-1 with a 3.34 GAA and an .881 save percentage through 16 appearances, so he can still be tough to trust in fantasy. That said, he has a favorable matchup ahead if he gets the start Wednesday in Calgary rather than Thursday in Edmonton.

  • Red Wings' John Gibson: Drawing second consecutive start

Gibson will defend the road crease against Vancouver on Monday, per NHL.com.

Gibson has picked up wins in each of his last two starts despite allowing a total of seven goals on 65 shots in those outings. The Canucks are scoring 2.86 goals per game this season, which ranks 22nd in the NHL.
