Gustafsson was summoned from AHL Grand Rapids on an emergency basis Thursday.
The Red Wings may need a seventh defenseman Thursday in Edmonton, as Simon Edvinsson was injured Wednesday in Calgary. Gustafsson has only played one NHL game this season, going minus-1 with two shots on goal. He had one goal and 13 assists in 14 AHL games before his recall. The Red Wings placed Mason Appleton (lower body) on injured reserve in a corresponding move.

Appleton has already missed five games due to his lower-body problem, so his move to injured reserve won't impact his recovery timeline. In his 26 outings this year, the Wisconsin native has notched just three goals and six helpers to go with 28 shots. Even once cleared to play, Appleton figures to offer limited offensive upside in a bottom-six role.

Gibson was magnificent Wednesday en route to posting at least 34 saves for a second straight game. He's won each of his last four starts despite allowing at least three goals in three of those contests. He has a 2.50 GAA and .929 save percentage over that stretch, providing a safety blanket for a Red Wings offense that has also scored four or more goals in each of those starts.

Becher is looking for his first goal of the season, but he has seven helpers over his last seven games. Overall, he's at 10 assists in 17 contests during his second AHL campaign. He had 20 points in 59 regular-season outings last year. The 2024 third-round pick of the Red Wings was an overage selection that year, and at 21 years old, he has yet to show enough consistency in the AHL to be considered for an NHL job any time soon.

Gibson has won his past three starts while allowing seven goals on 104 shots (.933 save percentage). He's up to a 7-7-1 record with a 3.34 GAA and an .881 save percentage in 16 outings this season. The Flames are tied for 31st in goals per game with 2.48.

Kasper's first helper of the season ended his 18-game point drought. The 21-year-old has gotten on the scoresheet in just three of 30 games so far, earning three goals and a helper, as well as 44 shots on net, 72 hits, 25 PIM and a minus-12 rating. He's slipped into a bottom-six role with minimal power-play time over the last few weeks, and he'll need to show significantly better consistency on offense to regain some ice time. Kasper showed his talent with a 19-goal, 37-point effort in 77 outings last year, but he's been hit hard by the sophomore slump.

Red Wings' Axel Sandin-Pellikka: Posts pair of helpers

Sandin-Pellikka is heating up with four helpers over his last three games. The 20-year-old defenseman's ice time has dropped in that span, as he's topped 15 minutes just once over those contests after going 10 straight games with at least 16 minutes. Perhaps less is more for the rookie, at least for now, as the Red Wings can get higher quality out of him in less ice time. He's at 10 points, 31 shots on net, 31 blocked shots and a minus-14 rating over 30 appearances.

Van Riemsdyk scored a goal on five shots and added two hits in Monday's 4-0 win over the Canucks.
Van Riemsdyk has scored in four straight games and in six of his last seven outings. The 36-year-old winger has 23 shots in that longer span. For the season, he's at eight points, 42 shots on net and a minus-7 rating over 24 appearances. He's definitely worthy of a look as a streaming option Wednesday versus the Flames, though it's unclear if he'll play both games of the Red Wings' upcoming back-to-back, as he has often sat out at least once during those situations this season.

Gibson is now 7-7-1 with a 3.34 GAA and an .881 save percentage through 16 appearances, so he can still be tough to trust in fantasy. That said, he has a favorable matchup ahead if he gets the start Wednesday in Calgary rather than Thursday in Edmonton.
