The Seattle Sounders couldn't even get one shot on goal during Saturday night's MLS Cup against Toronto FC.

And what do they have to show for it? Their first MLS title.

The Sounders stuck together on defensive, were boosted by a world-class save from goalkeeper Stefan Frei in extra time and beat Toronto 5-4 in penalty kicks after playing 120 minutes of 0-0 soccer.

Roman Torres, the Panama international, scored the winning penalty kick in the sixth round as Justin Morrow hit the crossbar on Toronto's sixth chance.

It was a fitting end to an unbelievable season for the Sounders. The club won only six of its first 21 matches, lost star Clint Dempsey, saw their coach Sigi Schmid lose his job and more. But under Brian Schmetzer, the team improved and stuck together, with summer signing Nicolas Lodeiro providing a much-needed boost in attack and the team bending but never breaking.

Both teams entered the night looking for their first crown. This was the first MLS Cup without a team from the inaugural season of 1996, and it was the second successive MLS title for the Pacific Northwest after Portland won the title a year ago.
