What to Know
The #3 Purdue Boilermakers and the Butler Bulldogs are even-steven against one another since December of 2015 (2-2), but not for long. They will face off against one another at noon ET Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. These two teams seek to continue their momentum from their previous wins.
Purdue beat the NC State Wolfpack 82-72 on Sunday. It was another big night for the Boilermakers' forward Trevion Williams, who almost posted a triple-double on 22 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Williams has had at least 11 rebounds. Williams' points were the most he has had all season.
Meanwhile, while not quite a landslide, the contest between Butler and the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Saturday was still a pretty decisive one as the Bulldogs wrapped it up with a 66-54 win at home. Butler's guard Aaron Thompson looked sharp as he dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten dimes along with five boards.
Purdue is the favorite in this one, with an expected 15-point margin of victory. They have failed bettors playing the spread in their past three games, so buyers beware.
The wins brought Purdue up to 9-1 and Butler to 7-3. A couple stats to keep an eye on: The Boilermakers rank third in college basketball when it comes to points per game, with 87.4 on average. But the Bulldogs come into the game boasting the 18th fewest points allowed per game in college basketball at 58.3. We'll see which of these strengths -- offense or defense -- will win out.
