Who's Playing
Michigan State @ Penn State
Current Records: Michigan State 18-6; Penn State 9-12
What to Know
The #19 Michigan State Spartans are 8-2 against the Penn State Nittany Lions since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success Tuesday. MSU and Penn State will face off in a Big Ten battle at 6:30 p.m. ET at Bryce Jordan Center. The Spartans will be strutting in after a win while the Nittany Lions will be stumbling in from a defeat.
MSU didn't have too much trouble with the Indiana Hoosiers at home this past Saturday as they won 76-61. Guard A.J. Hoggard and forward Malik Hall were among the main playmakers for MSU as the former had 14 points and eight assists and the latter had 18 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Penn State was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap this past Saturday as they fell 76-70 to the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Penn State got double-digit scores from four players: guard Sam Sessoms (18), forward Seth Lundy (16), forward John Harrar (12), and guard Jalen Pickett (10).
Barring any buzzer beaters, the Spartans are expected to win a tight contest. The odds have been favorable for them against the spread on the road this season, even if it's been tough sledding overall. They are 5-2 ATS in away games but only 13-11 all in all.
MSU is now 18-6 while the Nittany Lions sit at 9-12. Two stats to keep an eye on: MSU is 25th worst in college basketball in takeaways, with only 10.9 on average. Penn State has experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the game with the 358th fewest takeaways in college basketball, having accrued only 8.8 on average. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
