Tuesday night was an a very eventful night at Fenway Park. The Red Sox and Orioles played the second game of their four-game series, which the Red Sox won 5-2 (box score) behind staff ace Chris Sale. The game featured a standing ovation for Adam Jones and a triple play, among other things.

In the first inning Sale threw behind Manny Machado as apparent retaliation for Machado spiking Dustin Pedroia in the calf two weeks ago. Both benches were warned but Sale was not ejected, amazingly. Here's the pitch:

After the game Machado ripped Sale and the Red Sox, saying he's lost respect for the organization during a profanity laced rant. He was not happy about being thrown at again -- Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes threw behind Machado's head in the last series these two teams played -- and understandably so.

Sale, however, doesn't seem to care about what Machado thinks of him or the Red Sox. He struck out Machado in the first inning, after throwing behind his legs, and he used that to pump up his team. From Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald:

Sale struck out Machado to end the first inning and ran into the dugout, slapping hands, yelling and pointing.

"Just getting fired up," Sale said. "I invited everybody over for a pool party. I enjoy those. Throw some ribs on the grill, maybe a steak or two. Just trying to get the boys together."

Machado did take Sale deep later in the game, though by then the Red Sox had the lead. They would hang on for the win.

After being informed about Machado's rant after the game, Sale says he is "not losing sleep" over anything that happened. From Joshua Schrock of NESN:

"That's part of it man," Sale said, as seen on "Red Sox Extra-Innings Live." "I can't speak to what he said. I'm not too worried about it. Whatever man, I'm not losing sleep (Tuesday night)."

The Red Sox and Orioles play again Wednesday night and Thursday night. They still have another 10 head-to-head games remaining after this series as well. Something tells me this won't be the last incident between these two clubs this year.
