  • Padres' Jackson Wolf: Outrighted to Triple-A

The Padres outrighted Wolf to Triple-A El Paso after he cleared waivers Saturday. Wolf will remain in the organization after he went unclaimed upon being moved off the Padres' 40-man roster Thursday. The 25-year-old lefty previously made a spot start for the Padres in 2023 but has spent the entire 2024 campaign in the minors since being reacquired from the Pirates shortly after Opening Day. Over 23 outings (18 starts) for El Paso this season, Wolf owns a 7.21 ERA and 1.89 WHIP across 83.2 innings.

  • Padres' Jackson Wolf: Jettisoned from 40-man roster

The Padres designated Wolf for assignment Thursday. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Carl Edwards, whose contract was selected from Triple-A El Paso. Wolf was reacquired from the Pirates back in April after being designated for assignment and has posted a 7.21 ERA this season at El Paso. The lefty is just 25 years old and has shown some swing-and-miss ability in the past, so it's possible he garners interest via waivers.

  • Padres' Jackson Wolf: Sent to San Diego

The Pirates traded Wolf to the Padres on Tuesday in exchange for Kervin Pichardo. Wolf was DFA'd by the Pirates on Thursday, and he'll now head back to San Diego after being shipped to Pittsburgh at last season's trade deadline. Wolf made a spot start in the majors last season with the Padres, but the 24-year-old southpaw will likely spend most of his time at Triple-A El Paso in 2024.

  • Pirates' Jackson Wolf: Loses 40-man roster spot

The Pirates designated Wolf for assignment Thursday. Wolf was optioned to Double-A Altoona early in spring training, and he'll now be squeezed off the 40-man roster ahead of Opening Day. In addition to making a spot start with the Padres last season, Wolf turned in a 4.13 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across 124.1 frames at Double-A San Antonio.

  • Pirates' Jackson Wolf: Sent down to Double-A

Wolf was optioned to Double-A Altoona by the Pirates on Monday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Wolf struck out a pair in a scoreless inning in his lone appearance this spring. The tall left-hander skipped over the Triple-A level to make a spot start for the Padres last season before landing in Pittsburgh at the trade deadline. He'll head back to the Double-A level for more seasoning.

  • Padres' Jackson Wolf: Heads to minors after strong debut

The Padres optioned Wolf to Double-A San Antonio on Sunday. Wolf bypassed the Triple-A level to make his MLB debut Saturday, earning the win in the Padres' 14-3 victory over the Tigers while allowing three earned runs on six hits and one walk over five innings. Due to an off day this upcoming Thursday, the Padres look content to get by with a four-man rotation for the upcoming week, so Wolf will be the odd man out and will head back to the minors. Wolf or Ryan Weathers could be called up the next time the Padres require a fifth starter Aug. 1, assuming Michael Wacha (shoulder) isn't ready to return from the 15-day injured list by then.

  • Padres' Jackson Wolf: Called up for debut start

Wolf's contract was selected as expected Saturday ahead of his major-league debut against the Tigers. Wolf, a fourth-round pick in the 2021 Draft, doesn't come with a ton of prospect pedigree, but he does come with strong numbers at the Double-A level this season. In 17 starts, he owns a 3.39 ERA, striking out 31.3 percent of opposing batters while walking just 6.0 percent. The 6-foot-7 sidearmer will skip Triple-A altogether, though it remains to be seen if his funk and deception will continue to outweigh the fact that his fastball sits below 90 mph.

  • Padres' Jackson Wolf: MLB debut coming Saturday

Wolf will be called up to make his major-league debut in a start Saturday at Detroit, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. It had already been reported that Wolf was being promoted, but now he's officially locked in as the Padres' starter Saturday. The 24-year-old left-hander has posted a strong 3.39 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 104:20 K:BB in 85 innings (17 starts) this season with Double-A San Antonio and is probably worth an immediate look in fantasy against a Detroit team that ranks 28th in team OPS at .667. Wolf was a fourth-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of West Virginia University.

  • Padres' Jackson Wolf: Missing bats at Double-A

Wolf, 24, has a 4.09 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 36:4 K:BB over his last 22 innings (five starts) for Double-A San Antonio. The 6-foot-7 southpaw has given up some hard contact, with five balls leaving the yard in those 22 innings, but he is also racking up the strikeouts. Wolf's funky delivery and long extension can cause timing issues for hitters, as was evident in recent dominant outings against Corpus Christi and Northwest Arkansas.
