After he didn't receive a qualifying offer from the Jackets in October, the writing was on the wall for Scott's future with the organization. The 25-year-old, who scored 38 goals and 80 points in 242 AHL games over the last four seasons, may need to head overseas if he wants to continue his career.

Scott was recalled just Friday and didn't draw into the lineup for Saturday's contest against the Panthers. Although he's enjoyed some success with OHL Barrie, he remains at best a borderline NHL option. He will now return to AHL Cleveland, where he owns just six points over 16 games this season.

Scott's call-up was necessitated by winger Matt Calvert (upper body) getting placed on injured reserve. Now 21 years old, Scott wasn't drafted in the NHL but showed marked improvement in each subsequent campaign with the OHL's Barrie Colts between 2012-16. In his final season there, the Ontario native amassed 28 goals, 37 assists, and a plus-32 rating. He's yet to make at hockey's highest level.
