Jordan Maletta: Placed on unconditional waivers
Maletta was waived Wednesday, as the Blackhawks intend to buy out his contract, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Maletta was one of the less prominent names included in a mid-July trade between the Coyotes and Blackhawks, highlighted by Vinnie Hinostroza moving to the desert and Chicago getting to dump Marian Hossa's salary; the legendary winger likely will never play again due to a skin condition. As an undrafted pivot suddenly back on the open market, Maletta has no fantasy value.

Blackhawks' Jordan Maletta: Dished to Chicago
Maletta was part of a seven-player trade Thursday that will send him from the Coyotes to the Blackhawks for the 2018-19 season. He, Andrew Campbell, Marcus Kruger, MacKenzie Entwistle and a 2019 fifth-round selection were sent to the Blackhawks in exchange for Vinnie Hinostroza, Jordan Oesterle and a 2019 third-round pick.
Maletta appeared in just 29 AHL games during 2017-18 due to a hand injury, collecting just four points -- all assists -- over that span. Although he's only 23, the pivot's ceiling from a future fantasy perspective likely remains low given his lack of production after moving to the minors for the first time in 2016-17. He will attempt to get back on track with his development this season.

Coyotes' Jordan Maletta: Moving to desert
Maletta was acquired Monday by the Coyotes in a trade that sent Ryan Kujawinski to Columbus.
The 22-year-old center is currently in the midst of his second professional season and thus far has tallied 12 goals and 15 assists through 104 AHL contests. Maletta failed to reach a point-per-game pace during a single season while playing major junior, but what he lacks as far as a scoring touch, he attempts to make up for with his 6-foot-3, 216-pound frame. Maletta will likely report to AHL Tucson for the remainder of the season.
