Manchester City-Arsenal score: David Luiz horror show; City dominates; Liverpool has to wait to clinch title
Manchester City's win means Liverpool will have to wait a little longer to cling the Premier League title

Manchester City made easy work of Arsenal with a convincing 3-0 win as the Premier League returned to action on Wednesday.
City broke through during stoppage time in the first half, and from there it was piece of cake, with Arsenal playing most of the second half with 10 men after David Luiz was sent to the showers for conceding a penalty kick. The Gunners' attack couldn't even produce a shot on goal.
With the win, Liverpool's 30-year title drought will have to wait until at least next week. Meanwhile, the Gunners are on the verge of being out of contention for a Champions League spot. Here are three takeaways:
1. Luiz was simply awful
We could be seeing David Luiz's final days in the Premier League. The former Chelsea and PSG man has been on a decline for a while and his nightmare performance ruined . Luiz failed to control a ball in that led to Raheem Sterling winner and then conceded a penalty and got a red card early in the second half. Here's how he impacted the opening goal:
Luiz's red came in the 49th minute, but he actually only played 25 minutes after coming on for Pablo Mari in the first half. So let's review, shall we:
- 25 minutes played
- One red card
- One penalty kick
- Responsible for two City goals
A day to forget.
2. Absolutely horrifying injury dampens mood
Late in this one, City's Eric Garcia was defending when his goalkeeper Ederson came out to clear the ball, and the two collided. Garcia was down for an extended period of time and had to be carried off, and it was easy to see what. The force that he went down with with bone-chilling. It was obviously unintentional but very scary to see, and the reaction of the players says it all.
Hopefully the 19-year-old centerback will be just fine. Horrible stuff.
3. Liverpool unable to clinch title on Sunday
Because City won, Liverpool cannot mathematically win the league title on Sunday against Everton. The earliest they could now win it is on Wednesday, June 24 when they play Crystal Palace, and if they don't do it there, then perhaps on July 2 against ... Manchester City.
It's inevitable at this point, but at least Reds fans can know not to expect it this coming Sunday.
Final score: Manchester City 3, Arsenal 0
