Saturday night’s Elite Eight schedule consists of two games featuring top seeds -- No. 1 Gonzaga and No. 1 Kansas, both of which are sizable favorites to advance to the Final Four. The Zags are playing Xavier early. The Jayhawks are playing Oregon late.

Who wins?

Who covers?

Here are predictions for both games:

(1) Gonzaga -8 vs. (11) Xavier

Straight-up pick: Gonzaga

ATS pick: Gonzaga

The cool thing about this matchup is that either Mark Few (Gonzaga) or Chris Mack (Xavier) will take his school to its first Final Four. I love that. And I think it’ll be Few and his Bulldogs. Gonzaga has the nation’s best defensive efficiency rating and a top-15 offensive efficiency rating. In other words, the Zags are good on both ends of the court -- undeniably better than Xavier on both ends of the court. The Musketeers’ run of three straight wins as underdogs has been incredible. And Chris Mack is great. But I’m betting Gonzaga ends Xavier’s season here.

(1) Kansas -7 vs. (3) Oregon

Straight-up pick: Kansas

ATS pick: Oregon

The Jayhawks have won 11 straight games in which Josh Jackson has played -- and their three NCAA Tournament wins have come by an average of 30 points. So they’re rolling. And Frank Mason has scored at least 20 in six straight contests. The question: Can Oregon even make this a game? My answer: Yes. And I actually think there’s value in taking the Pac-12 champs +7. So I’m taking Oregon +7. But it’s hard to envision Kansas losing an Elite Eight game in Kansas City -- especially after I just watched the Jayhawks beat Purdue by 32 in Kansas City. Prediction: Oregon covers but Kansas wins -- and advances to the third Final Four of Bill Self’s career.
