Final Four 2017: South Carolina's Frank Martin was intense as a high school coach
The South Carolina coach hasn't changed much in the way of his approach to coaching
South Carolina coach Frank Martin has the Gamecocks in the Final Four, but it wasnât too long ago that he had another team competing for a title.
From 1996-98 Martin won three consecutive state titles as coach of Miami Senior High School with players such as Steve Blake, who later went on to win a national title with Maryland and enjoyed a successful NBA career and Udonis Haslem, who has won three NBA titles with the Heat.
Hereâs some footage of Martin on the sideline as the Miami High coach and it appears his coaching style hasnât changed a lick. Heâs the same tough-nosed coach, stomping around on the sidelines with that familiar scowl that has led the Gamecocks into the Final Four this season.
This looks familiar, doesnât it?

Martin is arguably the most intense coach in all of college basketball, and so far heâs proven it translates to every level -- even if he hasnât won a national title.
At least not yet, anyway.
South Carolina plays top-seeded Gonzaga on Saturday at 7:09 p.m. ET on CBS, where his Gamecocks will have the chance to make a first appearance in the national championship game.
