A McDonald's All-American, Allen's inclusion to Texas is a boon for Shaka Smart. USATSI

A huge recruiting coup in early June?

Doesn't normally happen, but five-star power forward/center Jarrett Allen took his time in deciding where to go to school next season. He's announced: It's Texas per multiple reports on Friday morning. Allen was the last five-star prospect in the class of 2016 to commit to a school. It's not just a verbal deal -- Allen has already signed the necessary papers, making the Austin native a "hard commit," as they say.

Shaka Smart lands his coveted big man. If he's able to enroll and be eligible to play for Texas next season (this is the expectation), then he'll probably be one of the four or five best freshman in the Big 12. Texas, which lost key point guard Isaiah Taylor to early NBA entry, now can realistically look at going back to the NCAA Tournament thanks to Allen's decision. Texas won out over Kansas and Houston.

247Sports ranks Allen as the No. 17 player in the Class of 2016. He's approximately 6-foot-10, 210 pounds. This signing means Texas has a five-star player in Allen, plus three four-stars in the class of 2016: combo guard Andrew Jones, center James Banks and point guard Jacob Young. It's arguably a top-five class and without debate a top-eight class heading into next season.

Allen is athletic, versatile, plays both ends of the floor well and is projected as a future first-round pick. The question is, will he be the type of player who's at Texas for one year or two? Next season will be an interesting one for UT because it will be experimental but also transitional, as Smart is quickly building his program and roster. Hard to get off to a better start in this regard than what he's done.
