After suffering an 82-68 loss to Tulsa on Thursday night, the USF basketball team made its way back to Tampa the next morning.

The only problem is they left without two players, Troy Holston and Geno Thorpe, who fell asleep waiting for the team’s connecting flight in Houston. When they woke up, the team plane was still at the gate, but it was too late to board, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The school later found tickets for the two to complete the rest of the trip, but the damage was already done for Holston’s mother, who wasn’t a happy camper about the mess. She went on a Twitter rant to let everyone know about it, and told the Tampa Bay Times: “It’s very disappointing, and it’s a reflection of how terrible a program the men’s basketball program is.”

Thorpe and Holston, first and second in terms of minutes played per game this season for USF,  were apparently not noticed as absent when the rest of the team boarded. It’s quite a weird scenario. How can you not notice two of your most utilized players weren’t on your commercial flight back home?

“This unfortunate circumstance, for which I apologize, was recognized by our staff as the plane was leaving the gate and not in time to get the players on the commercial flight,” interim coach Murry Bartow said in a statement on Saturday.

Fortunately for both of them, they made it back in time for a charity event with the team.
