In the meantime, here's a quick look at what our top preseason candidates did on opening weekend (keeping in mind that Logan Thomas will be playing on Monday and that, as of this writing late Saturday night, Landry Jones was still in action against UTEP):
Matt Barkley, USC -- The preseason front runner went 24 of 39 for 377 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-10 victory against Hawaii.
Denard Robinson, Michigan -- He went 11 for 26 passing for 200 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) in a 41-14 loss to Alabama. He also added 27 yards and a score on 10 carries.
Montee Ball, Wisconsin -- The senior running back had 120 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries and also caught three passes for 31 yards in a 26-21 win over Northern Iowa.
Aaron Murray, Georgia -- The junior quarterback went 15 of 26 for 258 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-23 win over Buffalo.
EJ Manuel, Florida State -- Manuel was 16 of 22 for 188 yards with one touchdown and one interception and added 38 yards rushing in a 69-3 win over Murray State.
Geno Smith, West Virginia -- Smith went 32 of 36 for 323 yards and four touchdowns through the air and added 65 yards and a score on the ground as the Mountaineers crushed Marshall, 69-34.
Knile Davis, Arkansas -- In his first game back after missing all of last season, Davis rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries in a 49-24 win over Jacksonville State.
De'Anthony Thomas, Oregon -- Thomas had 127 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns on eight touches as the Ducks routed Arkansas State.
Tajh Boyd, Clemson -- Boyd was 24 of 34 for 208 yards and a touchdown (with a pick) and he rushed for 58 yards in a 26-19 win over Auburn.
Tavon Austin, West Virginia -- He had 167 all-purpose yards and a touchdown in West Virginia's 69-34 rout of Marshall.
Kenjon Barner, Oregon -- He rushed for 66 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries in Oregon's romp over Arkansas State.
Tyler Bray, Tennessee -- He threw for 333 yards and two touchdowns on 27 of 41 passing in the Vols' 35-21 win over NC State on Friday.
James Franklin, Missouri -- Franklin was 13 of 21 for 131 yards and a score and rushed for 39 yards in a 62-10 win over Southeast Louisiana.
Collin Klein, Kansas State -- He threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns on 19 of 28 passing and added 54 rushing yards in a 51-9 win over Missouri State.
Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina -- Lattimore rushed for 110 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns in a 17-13 win over Vanderbilt. He also caught three passes for 21 yards.
Keith Price, Washington -- He was 25 of 35 for 222 yards and a touchdown in a 21-12 win over San Diego State.
Tyler Wilson, Arkansas -- Wilson was 19 for 27 for 367 yards and three touchdowns in the Arkansas rout of Jacksonville State.
