Watch as Devon Gales thanks Georgia fans, gets surprised with new house
Watch Devon Gales, Southern player injured at Georgia and now in a wheelchair, find out he's getting a new house in a press conference in Athens.

Devon Gales planned a press conference in Athens, Georgia, for his release from his lengthy hospital stay in Atlanta. Gales has been in the hospital since suffering a spinal injury when his Southern Jaguars played against Georgia on Sept. 26, 2015. He wanted to thank the Georgia medical staff, the players and the community for helping him in that moment, but Gales was surprised by another gift on top of the generosity, love and compassion he's already received.
ESPN's David Pollack was on hand for the ceremony, which included the news that the Triumph for Tragedy Foundation is in the process of raising funds to build the Gales' a handicap-accessible house in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
"House modifications aren’t something insurance pays for. As you can imagine, it’s not cheap,” Wesley Jones, co-founder of the Triumph over Tragedy Foundation said, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We’ve been able to help several families and do modifations for homes. Unfortunately, the Gales’ home is one that can’t really be modified. So what we’re here today for is, our foundation is going to launch a campaign starting today, we’re going to raise money and we’re going to build these guys a new home. That’s what they deserve, that’s what we’re going to do.”
You can support the efforts by contributing at the foundation's website and purchasing one of the Georgia/Devon Gales shirts or hoodies, featuring the Georgia "G" on Gales.

Since Gales suffered the injury, Georgia has done a lot to help raise funds for his medical expenses and help his family. The Dawgs also wore helmet decals honoring Gales earlier this season.
