WATCH: Gators WR ejected after Vol takes flop that would make James Harden blush
Brandon Powell was ejected for throwing a punch, but the video shows he did no such thing
The Florida Gators saw a 21-0 first half lead evaporate against Tennessee on Saturday as the Vols put together a 38-0 run from the late second quarter to the mid-fourth quarter to take the lead for good.
As Tennessee stormed back, the Florida offense went without a first down for the first 22 minutes of the second second. That led to some understandable frustration from the Gators players.
Brandon Powell, who was held to just one catch, was ejected early in the fourth quarter for throwing a punch at the end of a series.
While Powell did throw his arm towards a Tennessee's Rashaan Gauldeen, the video clearly shows Gauldeen flopping hard enough to make James Harden blush. He spins to the ground dramatically, drawing the flag on Powell, who was ejected.
By being ejected in the fourth quarter, Powell would be unavailable for the first half of Florida's next game. However, his ejection could very well be overturned by the SEC office after it looks at the video. Chances are Powell will be reinstated for the Gators' game against Vanderbilt next Saturday.
