WATCH: Nick Saban went on a rant, talked about bodily functions
Alabama coach Nick Saban does not appreciate you taking Charleston Southern lightly.
Alabama is playing Charleston Southern this week. Charleston Southern is a good FCS team, as it's currently 9-1 on the season. That being said, as good an FCS program as Charleston Southern may be, it's not Alabama.
So not surprisingly, most people aren't taking this game all that seriously (including the local media), and Nick Saban is not having any of it. During his media session on Wednesday, Saban was asked about Charleston Southern quarterback Austin Brown, and he answered the question ... but then he went off in a strange direction and talked about doing things to horns that I don't think anybody should do.
“He’s a really good player, and he does a really good job with his offense,” Saban said. “These teams that are typically the best in their division are really good teams. You all maybe take the week off this week, but I’m not. A lot of people take a lot of things granted, and I get asked questions like, ‘How important is it for the young guys to play this week?’ How the hell do you know they’re going to play? Do you think you can assume they’re going to get to play? Because you’re assuming the other team is not very good?
“They do have a Division I quarterback, he plays like a Division I quarterback, and they’re very productive on offense, and they do a great job of executing what they do, and if we don’t do a good job executing against them ..."
And then he continued: "You all don’t remember the Georgia Southern game, do you? I don’t think we’ve had a guy on that field that didn’t play in the NFL, and about four or five of them were first-round draft picks, and I think that team won a national championship, but I’m not sure, and they ran through our ass like shit through a tin horn, man, and we could not stop them. Could not stop them. Could not stop them, because we couldn’t get a look in practice, we didn’t practice it right, and everybody said the same thing in that game."
Now, pushing Saban's idea of what a horn is for aside, let's take a look at his assertion that Alabama "could not stop" Georgia Southern in 2011.
Saban's not entirely wrong, as Georgia Southern did rush for 302 yards and averaged 7.7 yards per carry. It's just, even with Alabama being unable to "stop them," the Tide still won the game by 24 points.
Of course, that doesn't mean Charleston Southern will have the same success. I mean, Georgia Southern may have gone through Alabama's tin horn like that, but I'm assuming Alabama bought a new horn since then. I know I would get a new one if somebody did that to mine.
