WATCH: Urban Meyer's priceless reaction after learning ex-players can join practice
Urban Meyer learned about Nick Saban using former players on scout team and is intrigued
Everything about Alabama football has made headlines this season, even when the scout team has featured former stars like Blake Sims, Trent Richardson and John Parker Wilson.
Nick Saban learned that he could bring back former players to play on the scout team to offer better preparation for certain players and matchups. For example, Blake Sims simulated Trevor Knight and Trent Richardson simulated Leonard Fournette. If it's legal, might as well take advantage of it, right?
Notre Dame's Brian Kelly isn't a fan of the practice, but it seems as though some coaches are oblivious to the rule. Ohio State's Urban Meyer was among those that didn't know, until Monday night's press conference when he was made aware and had a priceless reaction.
"In practice? I did not know that," Meyer said. "Like, padded practice, he's running plays? In padded practice? NFL players? [Pulls phone out of pocket] Be right back."
When asked if he would consider doing it, Meyer said, "It's got me thinking. Who we got?"
College coaches are always looking for any competitive advantage, so maybe we'll see some former Buckeyes hit the practice squad before the year is out.
