FIU removes Hall of Famer Thomas as its men's basketball coach
The awkward relationship between Isiah Thomas and Florida International University came to an end Friday when the school removed the Hall of Famer as its men's basketball coach, a source told CBSSports.com.
FIU subsequently confirmed the news with a released statement.
"We want to thank Isiah Thomas for his three years here at FIU," said Florida International executive director of sports and entertainment Pete Garcia. "However, we have decided to take the program in a different direction."
Thomas was at FIU for three seasons.
His career record was 26-65.
He never won more than 11 games in a season.
Thomas previously coached the Pacers and Knicks in the NBA after a 13-year career as a player that featured two championships with the Pistons. The Chicago native was once an executive with the Raptors and Knicks, too. He's also known for buying the CBA and famously bankrupting the CBA.
