Mississippi State talented freshman Rodney Hood transferring
Mississippi State talented freshman Rodney Hood is transferring, sources told CBSSports.com.
The news was confirmed in a release from the school late Sunday night.
"It was just a long, tough year for me," Hood said in the statement. "Coach [Rick] Ray will be a great asset to Mississippi State and getting to know him last week made this decision even harder, but after much thought, I am going to ask for a release. I wish my teammates and the program nothing but the best."
The 6-foot-8 Hood averaged 10.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game this past season for the Bulldogs -- who fired Rick Stansbury and replaced him with Ray earlier this month.
With Arnett Moultrie and Renardo Sidney leaving the Bulldogs for the NBA, and Dee Bost and Brian Bryant out of eligiblity, Hood was expected to be the lone returning starter for Mississippi State. Now, Jalen Steele and Wendell Lewis are the top returnees for the Bulldogs
"I was looking forward to getting a chance to develop and coach [Hood]," Ray said in the statement. "This decision, unfortunately, was made before my hire. The Hoods were forthright and honest about where they were when I met with them, and I appreciate their honesty. I look forward to putting together a team with the current members, rolling up our sleeves and recruiting new Bulldogs."
Hood will immediately become one of the most sought-after players in the country.
