Arizona lands Duquesne point guard

Arizona has added Duquesne transfer T.J. McConnell.

McConnell confirmed to CBSSports.com that he chose the Wildcats over Virginia. The 6-foot-1 sophomore averaged 11.4 points, 5.5 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game -- and was among the nation's leaders in steals -- for the Dukes this past season.

He decided to transfer just prior to Ron Everhart being fired by athletic director Greg Amodio -- and became a hot commodity.

McConnell will sit out this season and give Sean Miller and the Wildcats stability at the point guard spot -- something that has been lacking since Miller arrived in Tucson.

Freshman Josiah Turner was supposed to take the reigns this past season, but he struggled both on and off the court and his future with the program is still uncertain after being suspended for the Pac-12 tournament last year.

McConnell could be the ideal fit -- especially with all the talent he'll likely have around him in a couple years. Arizona brings one of the elite freshman classes in the country this season with frontline guys Brandon Ashley, Grant Jerrett and Kaleb Tarczewski -- and guard Gabe York.

The Wildcats also received a commitment from Arizona native and junior college big man Matt Korcheck - who could wind up redshirting next season.
