Division III player from Grinnell College scores NCAA-record 138 points

BOX SCORE

Grinnell College's Jack Taylor scored an NCAA-record 138 points Tuesday in a 179-104 win over Faith Baptist Bible.

The previous record was a 113-point performance from Rio Grande's Bevo Francis.

That record was set in 1954.

"It felt like anything I tossed up was going in," Taylor said afterward, which suggests he's not too concerned about the 56 shots he actually missed in this game. The 5-foot-10 sophomore from Wisconsin finished 52-of-108 from the field and 27-of-71 from 3-point range -- Yes, Taylor really did launch 71 3-pointers -- in 36 minutes. He has now scored 185 points in three games this season, meaning Taylor is averaging -- ready for this? -- 61.7 points per game for the Division-III school in Iowa known for its exciting style of play featuring a constant full-court press and really, really fast-paced attack.

Taylor scored his 100th point with a little more than eight minutes remaining while teammate Griffin Lentsch -- who scored a then-Division-III-record 89 points a mere 366 days ago -- finished with only seven. Meantime, David Larson scored 70 for Faith Baptist Bible. That's not bad. But it's not 138, either.
